UOI: Students reflected on how they celebrated Christmas and New Year, by way of drawing. As a part of English Integration, students recapitulated various celebrations inquired so far. They attempted a looping back worksheet for unit on ‘Celebrations’. To inquire into the harvest celebrations in India, students were shown an online presentation on why and how Lohri is celebrated in North India. They also met with the Guest speaker, Ms. Anita Mohan on how ‘Onam’ is celebrated in Kerala. Later students illustrated their understanding of the Guest speaker session. Other harvest celebrations in various parts of India (Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Assam) were also discussed with the students. Provocation and prior knowledge assessment on Pollution was conducted on the students. Students were taken to a station where they saw a few pictures showing effects of pollution on our environment and surroundings. They then discussed what they had seen through the 'I See - I Feel - I Wonder' strategy. Later they saw a video showing harmful effects of waste created by humans. English: Students attempted a Bingo activity of sight words. They also enjoyed recapping sight words through a game of musical chairs. Recapitulation of blends done earlier in the first term: ‘bl’, ‘cl’, fl’, ‘pl’. Students were introduced to Blends ‘gl’, ‘sl’ and ‘fr’. They were shown a presentation on the same and they later wrote the words in their process journals. Students also attempted dictation of rhyming words and wrote them in their process journals. Mathematics: Recapitulation of numbers up to 30 was done using manipulatives. Students were divided into two groups by using ones and tens strategy. Group 1 matched the number of ice cream sticks with the given number and Group 2 was given number slips and they drew the quantity associated with it. Revision of ‘ascending’ and ‘descending’ order of numbers was done through an online game. They also attempted a looping back worksheet. Students were introduced to numbers beyond 30 till 50 by playing a floor game. Students were also shown a video on numbers 1 to 50. Later they wrote the same in their process journals. Students also attempted a sheet of quantity association in their process journals. Hindi: Students recapped vyanjan and matra done previously through a popcorn activity. They were introduced to ‘Aa’ Maatra words using flash cards. Later they practiced writing few words in their process journals along with illustrations. This should come as a part of trans-disciplinary learning in the beginning itself visual story on Lohri in Hindi and were familiarized with Hindi vocabulary related to the festival (gur, moongphali, lok nratya). The vyanjan “ta” was introduced to the children and related vocabulary was shown through a video. Later students wrote the same in their process journals. They also made illustrations of objects related to the vyanjan. Students were introduced to Hindi sight words ‘yeh’ and ‘hai’ through flash cards. They later practiced writing two sentences using these sight words. This week, students were also introduced to new two letter words: ‘ghar’, ‘oon’, ‘ras’, and ‘ek’. Art: Students inquired about ‘doodling’ and doodled on a given sheet using black sketch pens. ICT: Students explored Uppercase and Lowercase Letter Matching activity on http://www.abcya.com/ and had fun. It helped them to reinforce the concept learnt in the classroom and they were also excited to explore how to navigate on a website. Dance: Students tried combination of basic hands and feet positions with different type of music. Techniques of Dancing Statues helped them to work on their coordination. Music: The students practiced various techniques of vocal warm-ups in western music. They learnt the ‘Kookaburra song’ and a motivational song – ‘Umeedon Wali Dhoop’. The students practiced playing the sargam on teh keyboard. PE: Students learned motor skill building activities like jumping, single leg-hopping and double leg-hopping. The students had a great time sharing the props and stories they had prepared as part of their winter holiday homework.
