In continuation to the unit ‘Families’ students were shown some videos depicting how families influence who we become followed by a quiz. As a part of vocabulary enhancement, students were introduced to ‘og’ and ‘ot’ word families. They brainstormed these words and created them using LMA. Later they practiced writing them in their journals. Students actively presented ‘Take & Talk’ on ‘My favorite family member’. They were introduced to a new set of sight words ‘all, his, her, and, for’ through a sand game. Students were also read a story ‘My family’ and were introduced to vocabulary such as author, illustrator, cover page, back page. In Math, students recapitulated the concepts: Number recognition, quantity association, tens and ones, ascending/descending and even odd through various games and activities. Students practiced addition using counting on technique. Students worked in pairs to solve addition problems using appropriate strategy. They were introduced to position words through a presentation and were familiarized with the related vocabulary. Later they played a coloring game based on positions. In Hindi, Students attempted a formative assessment on the swars ‘o’, ‘oo’, ‘aiy’, ‘ai’. Students were introduced to the swar ‘oa’ through a video. They understood the formation through sand tracing and slate writing. They illustrated the vocabulary with the swar ‘oa’ and also practiced writing the swar in their process journals. Students were also introduced to ‘Phalon aur sabziyon ke naam’ in Hindi. PE: Student’s practiced walking on a straight line for coordination between leg and hand moment. They also had a relay race using ball. ICT: Students learnt to work how to use external mouse of a laptop. They also worked on different educational apps on Ipads. Music: The students learnt to play “do re mi…” on the keyboard. Songs done previously were reinforced. Students also played and explored various percussion instruments.

With reference to the central idea ‘Family relationships contribute to shaping our identity’ students were shown a presentation on people displaying values. As a part of media literacy they were shown some advertisements based on family values followed by a discussion about the values they display at home. Students were narrated a story ‘Caribbean family history’ and discussed values imbibed by a family. Students were also shown a story related to the family history of Abraham Lincoln. They also attempted a formative assessment on the second line of inquiry. Students recapitulated the sight words done so far through LMA and ‘In a minute’ game. They practiced reading ‘ed’ and ‘eg’ words through an online story. Later they practiced writing these words in their journals. Students attempted an assessment on sight words through ‘Musical chairs’ game. They were also read a story ‘Families are different’ followed by a discussion. Students practiced reading and writing simple sentences using the sight words and the three letter words learnt so far. Tuning in to the concept of addition students were narrated a story showcasing addition. Students used manipulatives to solve various addition problems. Students also practically experienced by roleplaying different addition related problem solving situations. Later students made their own addition sums in their journals. Students were introduced to a number line and how to use it solve in addition problems. iIn Hindi, students were introduced to the swar ‘aiy’ through a video. They understood the formation through sand tracing and slate writing. They illustrated the vocabulary with the swar ‘aiy’ and also practiced writing the swar in their process journals. Students revised primary colors through a game. They also learnt a new rhyme ‘Chunnu Munnu’. In ICT, students revised phonics through playing educational games on Ipads. Deepening the understanding of the central idea ‘Family relationships contribute to shaping our identity’ students were shown pictures of Nehru Gandhi Family and were asked questions related to them. They were also shown a story related to the life of Jawahar Lal Nehru followed by a discussion. Students also went for a field trip to the ‘Teen Murti Bhavan’. Students enthusiastically made coupon cards for their grandparents for the grandparents’ day. Students recapitulated the ‘at’, ‘an’, ‘ag’ and ‘ad’ family words through a treasure hunt game. They attempted a formative assessment on these words through various activities in the classroom. They were introduced to ‘ed’ and ‘eg’ word families through a presentation. Provocation to the concept of addition was done by showing them a Plus sign and asking questions like which sign is this? Where have you seen this? How it is used? Students were assessed on their understanding of the concept of Place value using various manipulatives. Students practiced writing ‘ai’ in their process journals and illustrated the vocabulary related to it. As a part of ‘Hindi Saptah’ students played a Bingo game on fruits and vegetables. They also enjoyed tongue twisters in Hindi. Students had fun learning a new rhyme ‘Hilmil kar rehna’. As a part of early year skill building activity students worked with a blunt needle and thread. In their Art class, students created a family tree using hand prints and pasting cut out of apples on it representing their family members. Students were shown pictures and videos depicting matriarchal families in India and around the world followed by a discussion. Recapitulation of the vocabulary learnt during the unit was done. Students also learnt a new rhyme ‘Finger family’. As a part of vocabulary enhancement students were introduced to ‘ag’ and ‘ad’ word families. They brainstormed these words, illustrated the learnt vocabulary and practiced writing these words in their process journals. Students were engaged in a bus stop activity for the recapitulation of the word families learnt so far. Reinforcement of sight words I, an, of, the, is was done using the hopscotch game. They were also introduced to a new set of sight words – in, on, to, a, was. Provocation to the concept of Place value was done by showing a few single and double digit numbers and asking the visual difference between them. Students inquired into the concept using Montessori Seguin board. Students were shown a story ‘Magical ropes’ for further understanding of the concept. Students were also assessed on their understanding of even and odd numbers through various activities in the class. In Hindi, students illustrated the vocabulary with the swar ‘oo’ and also practiced writing the swar in their process journals. They were introduced to the swar ‘e’ through a video. They understood the formation through sand tracing and slate writing. As an integration with the unit students were introduced to the names of family members in Hindi and a rhyme ‘Apna ghar’. Reinforcement of the swars learnt so far was also done. Students enjoyed singing ‘Rainbow’ song in their music class. Going further and deeper into the central idea ‘Family relationships contribute to shaping our identity’ students attempted a task sheet to demonstrate their understanding of various roles performed by the members in their family. As a part of media literacy, students were shown some videos depicting roles of different members in a family followed by a discussion about the roles of their family members. Later students enacted a role play defining different roles within a family. Students were read a story ‘Grandma’s glasses’ followed by a discussion. Later they attempted a comprehension task sheet based on the story. Students comprehended ‘at’ and ‘an’ sounds and related words through various interactive games. They also illustrated and practiced writing the learnt vocabulary in their process journals. Students read a short story ‘Zac the rat’ through an online game. They were also introduced to five sight words I, an, of, the, is through a ladder coloring sheet. Provocation for the concept of ’Even and Odd’ was done through a treasure hunt game which the children played in pairs. They were tuned into the concept through ‘Think, pair and share’ strategy where they counted and shared the objects with their partners to find out whether the number of objects was even or odd. A story ‘The seven jelly beans’ was enacted through a puppet show followed by an odd and even song for recapitulation of concept. Students were assessed on their understanding of ‘e’ and ‘ee’ through a matching task sheet where they identified the pictures and matched them with the correct swars. They were introduced to swars ‘o’ and ‘oo’ and related vocabulary through a video. To understand the formation students practiced sand tracing of these swars followed by writing on slates. Later they illustrated the learnt vocabulary and practiced writing ‘o’ in their process journals. They were narrated a story ‘Amma kahan hai’ followed by a discussion. Students enjoyed singing ‘Raindrops’ song in their music class. Students practiced catching of ball and participated in racing in their P.E class. |
