Moving further with the inquiry of the on-going theme, Similarities and differences between the joint family and nuclear family were discussed with the students. Students pasted the pictures of their family members in the double bubble map. To assess their understanding on the first line of inquiry, students were given a cut out of a house and colour coded name tags for each member such as red- mother, yellow- father, brother - green and orange- sister grandparents – purple, helpers-blue, pet- white. They pasted these name tags on the cut out to show the members in their family. As a part of media literacy, students were shown some videos that depicted the roles of different members in a family. As a part of numeracy, the concept of ascending and descending was introduced through manipulatives. This was further reinforced with the help of a game which the students played on the smart board. To understand the student’s clarity of the concepts greater/lesser and ascending/descending a formative assessment was done through spin the wheel game in which students created two digit numbers and wrote the same in the given sheet. Phonic sounds were reinforced with the help of classroom objects. Students were given a choice of picking an object. Later they told its initial and ending sound. Letter formation was practised in the process journals. To enhance the oratory skills of the students “Take and Talk Activity “was conducted, topic of which was” Rio Olympics 2016”. As a part of UOI integration students also practised the phonic sounds of the following terms – paternal, maternal, cousin. nuclear, joint, grandfather, grandmother. Introduction to Hindi swar “ee” was done through videos, slates. Students wrote swar “e” in their process journal and illustrated objects related to it. Assessment on swar “a” and “aa” was also taken. The festival of “Janmashtami” was celebrated with fun and fervour. A special assembly was conducted, students watched an audio visual related to the birth of Lord Krishna, they were shown various artefacts related to the festival; flute, peacock feather, etc. Students also inquired about the musical instrument flute.

Going further into the inquiry of the ongoing theme, students spoke about their family members with the help of pictures brought from their home. In addition to this the facilitator also got her family pictures and spoke about her family. Later, students illustrated their own family members. They were familiarized with the two different signs for a male and a female. As a part of numeracy, students explored the concept of greater than and less than through manipulatives. Students, also saw a video on Greater Than / Less Than. To understand the progression of the numbers students were divided into 3 groups and peer assessment was done on comparing the numbers and matching the quantity with the number in the process journals. They also solved math riddles by using their thinking skills. As a part of UOI integration- students used their research skills and made a bar graph to find out how many of them stay in a nuclear / joint family. Later they assessed which number is more – nuclear family or joint family. Introduction to Hindi swar “e” was done through videos, sand tray, slates. Students wrote swar “e” in their process journal and illustrated objects related to it. As a part of the Unit of Inquiry integration, students read the story - “Mummy ki Saree” and its characters were discussed. Special Assembly was conducted on the ongoing Rio Olympics, 2016. Students learnt about the games which are played indoors as well out doors. Later a class activity was done to make a Venn diagram depicting the same. Students drew creative illustrations by using simple shapes on the ongoing theme in their Art Files. Lines of Inquiry: • Kinds of families (Form) • Roles within the family (Function) • How families influence who we become (Reflection) Provocation With the beginning of a new Unit under Transdisciplinary theme- “Who we are”, students gave presentations on the illustrations made by them on how they had spent their summer vacations which was followed by discussion on families, family members and relationships. Students were shown videos of the rhymes -“Finger Family”, “I love you, you love me”. Further, they inquired about Nuclear family and Joint family through ORT books and videos and later illustrated their own family members. To assess their prior knowledge of phonic sounds a game “Spin the wheel” was played in the class. This was followed by sand paper letter tracing, writing on slates and also in the notebooks. Students were also shown some pictures and learnt how to thread a story. As a part of numeracy, students played the estimation game in which a jar filled with beads and a bundle of pencils was shown and they were asked to guess the number of beads in the jar. Students also did quantity association through” pocket the sticks and parking lot game”. They used their thinking skills to relate the number with the quantity on flash cards. To understand the progression of the numbers, a very interesting gross motor game was played in the class wherein numbers were written on their hands and they arranged themselves in the correct order from smallest to largest. Students also practiced number formation using sand tray, slates and in the notebooks. Reinforcement of Hindi swars –“a, aa” was done through videos, sand tray, slates and task sheets. Writing on the five line Hindi notebook was also initiated in which the swar “a and aa” were written and the illustrations were drawn. In the Art class, students creatively expressed about the members in their family through stick drawings in their Art Files. Dance Class Students also enjoyed their skating class where they learnt to balance and skate. In the ICT class, students explored some of the applications on the Ipads. Play time The school was buzzing with lot of positive energy and enthusiasm as children joined us back after the summer break. We welcome children on this journey of learning and growing together. Students were welcomed and introduced to the facilitators. They were allotted cubby holes for keeping their bags and bottles. Later they enjoyed the game where children rolled the dice and answered the corresponding question. Students reflected on how they spent their summer vacations by way of drawing. Essential agreements were established in the class through a spider web game and students were also familiarized with the names of different objects in the class example: smart board, stationery, and projector. Leaner profile attributes- Caring was emphasized and children’s attention was drawn towards learner profile board. Recapitulation of phonic sounds was done through mystery bag game. Learner profile attributes were discussed through power point presentation. Students were shown a calendar and asked about the importance of numbers. As a part of numeracy, number hunt game was played in which they were asked to find out numbers in the school and later they reflected on it by a way of drawing. Students also did quantity association with the number symbol by counting number of tables, chairs, cubby holes in the class. Students introduced themselves in Hindi and spoke about themselves and their family. Students were taken for a nature walk and they tried to name things in Hindi which they had observed during the nature walk. The Story of “Sunhera Hans” was shown to the children which was followed by a discussion about the characters. Students did pattern writing in the notebooks. Students enjoying in Art class.
