UOI: Students had a skype session with an International school to inquire into few unknown celebrations and showcase their understanding of Diwali celebrations. Being the Christmas week, students enjoyed making Christmas crafts like stockings, wreath bells, sugar stick etc. To inquire more on Christmas, students went on a field trip to the Church to observe the decorations and artifacts. This was followed by a reflection of the field trip. Students relished making and eating Oreo cookies with icing and decorating it with sprinkles. English: Recapitulation of rhyming words was done through a game ‘Roll a Rhyme’ played in pairs. Students did a ‘Take and Talk’ presentation “My Favorite Christmas Carol". Formative assessment was done through a story on sequencing of the ‘The little Red Hen’. Students were shown the story and later given flash cards to arrange them in a sequence as well express it using appropriate vocabulary. Students wrote rhyming words of “ig” and “ip” families in their process journals. They were also introduced to pl blend. Math: This week, students were introduced to the concept of ‘skip counting’. They participated in an activity where students were shown a chart with a pair of elf shoes on it and they had to count and speak the numbers till 20. After a discussion with the teacher, they watched a video on skip counting. Students also practiced skip counting by 2’s by circling the numbers in 2’s on a number line pasted in their process journals. Hindi: Students practiced writing the vyanjan “ma” in their process journals. They also made illustrations of objects related to the vyanjan. Introduction of ‘Aa ki matra’ was also done. Later students practiced writing “Aa ki matra” in their process journals. Recapitulation of swars and vyanjans done so far through a mixed pool activity. Students picked up a flash card, identified the swar/vyanjan and named an object with it. Music: Students sang carols in English, Hindi, and Spanish.

UOI: This week, also we inquired more about Christmas celebrations. Recapitulation of Christmas celebrations in Spain and Australia was done and later students shared their understanding through a T-chart. Students attempted a comprehension sheet based on Christmas. They also updated the vocabulary wall and Celebration calendar. English: This week, students were introduced to rhyming words through an activity where each student was given a piece of paper with a cvc word written on it, they read the word and matched its rhyming word amongst their peers. Students also wrote the rhyming words of ‘at’, ‘ug’‘in’, ‘it’, “en” and “og” families in their process journals. Formative assessment on sentence formation and punctuation was done. Students were shown a picture of a dog, sun, hen and bat and were asked to frame a sentence and write it with proper punctuation in their process journals. Math: This week, students were introduced to the concept of ‘patterns’. They participated in an activity where students had to close their eyes while the teacher played beats in a pattern. The students then had to repeat the same pattern, after opening their eyes. After a discussion with the teacher, they watched a video on patterns for further understanding on the subject. As a part of UOI integration, students created a decorative mat called mkeka (which is a Kwanzaa festival decorative mat) with the help of pre-cut shapes. Children were given shapes to create a pattern which they pasted on a sheet of paper to make a mat. Hindi: Students practiced writing the vyanjan “ka” in their process journals. They also made illustrations of objects related to the vyanjan. Recapitulation of two letter words ‘nal’, ‘bal’, ‘bus’, ‘sab’ was done. Formative assessment of two letter words was done. Students were introduced to unit related vocabulary in Hindi – ‘uphaar’, ‘utsav’, ‘tyohaar’, ‘sajawat’, ‘mithai’, ‘janamdin’ through an online Christmas story. The vyanjan “ma” was introduced to the children and related vocabulary shown through a video. Students also practiced formation of vyanjan ‘ma’ through sand tracing and slate writing. PE: Student learned various movement of the body like warming up and cooling down exercises. Music: The students were given an opportunity to sing Christmas carols in Hindi, English, Spanish, and French. UOI This week students inquired more about Christmas celebrations.The Placemat strategy was used for prior assessment and later they watch a video on the birth of Jesus for tuning into the inquiry.Students researched about how Christmas is celebrated in different parts of the world. They were shown a power point presentation on Christmas celebrations in Australia. Students also inquired on how Christmas is celebrated in Spain through flashcards. Students reiterated the Joy of Giving. Students were read the letters to the Three Kings (Three wise men), and were asked to decide if the Spanish children who have written the letters deserve to get presents. Using “Walking Debate “strategy, students presented their opinions and developed their communication and critical thinking skills. Students practiced wishing Merry Christmas in different languages. Later students illustrated what they would like for Christmas gifts. As a part of English integration, students were introduced to vocabulary related to important artifacts used during Christmas such as Christmas tree, Santa Claus, Reindeer and Christmas Eve Dinner. English To enhance their listening and speaking skills, students practiced tongue twisters. Students did a group activity in which they were divided into 4 groups. After grouping they were given a sheet to hunt for five words (CVC) and colored the letters red once the words are found. They practiced reading ‘ip’ & ‘ig’ words using flash cards. Later, they illustrated and wrote the same in their process journals. Recapitulation of ‘at’, ‘an’,’en’, ‘et’,’op’,’ot’ words was done through ‘Roll a Rhyme’ game in which students were divided into 4 groups to do the activity of building the rhyming words. Math This week, students were introduced to the concept of subtraction. Students were shown the rhyme ‘5 little Ducks’ on the smart board. They were also shown the minus sign (-) and the teacher discussed its usage in our daily life. Reinforcement of subtraction concept was done through an online video. After that, students used manipulatives to understand subtraction. Students performed a task sheet on subtraction in their process journals. Recapitulation of backward counting from 20-1 was done using manipulatives. Students also played some games like “Who took the cookies from the cookie jar” and “Peg a number” for reinforcement of the concept of subtraction. Hindi The vyanjan “ra” was introduced to the children with the help of a PowerPoint presentation. Also, students were divided into two groups: one group traced the letter on sand and other practiced writing on slates. Later students wrote the same in their process journals. The vyanjan “ka” was introduced to the children and related vocabulary shown through a video. Later students practiced formation of ‘ka’ through tearing, rolling and pasting paper balls on the vyanjan ‘Ka’ flash card. Children enjoyed listening to a story aloud. They then had to predict the likely outcomes or different ending for the same. Circle Time As a part of Early Year’s Skill building programme, students practiced how to wear and zip a jacket. They also practiced how to shell groundnuts. Assembly: Students attended a Sing Along assembly conducted by the music teacher wherein they sang all the carols taught till now. Art: Art class activity was integrated with the current theme on celebration by creating a Christmas tree using techniques like cutting strips of colored paper and sticking, taking impression of caps using poster colors and by coloring paper plates and folding in triangular shape. ICT: Students were introduced to the concept of coding during the Computer Science Education week. They explored coding with "Code a Pillar” app on the iPad and had fun. Dance: In the dance class students did a combination of basic hand and feet position with different types of music with their dance routine. The students also played the “Dancing Statue” Music: Students sang Christmas carols, not only the famous ones like Jingle bells, Rudolf the red nose reindeer, students are also beginning to learn carols in Hindi, and Spanish. UOI Moving further with the understanding on the continents this week students attempted a worksheet on continents wherein they colored the continents. Students inquired about the significance of the Christmas carols. Students listened to popular carols which they learnt and practiced every day. Students brainstormed about the forthcoming festival Christmas. After having a class discussion on how, where and by whom it is celebrated students illustrated their responses on a placement template. Students had an opportunity to attend a guest speaker session by Ms. Rafia Asif and shared about the festival celebrated by the muslims. Students also updated the celebration calendar, resource tally chart and the mapping of celebrations on World map. They were shown maps of the countries which they mapped on the world map and explained their features. English Reinforcement of the structure of the sentence along with appropriate punctuation was done through a game called ‘Let’s make a sentence’. This week students gave a presentation “Take and Talk” on the art of paper folding –Origami. Students played a bingo game on the three letter words with “u” as the medial sound. As a part of the media literacy students listened to an online story. To enhance their vocabulary skills, students were introduced to a new set of sight words: ‘have’, ‘had’, ‘he’, ‘she’, ‘they’, ‘we’, ‘see’ and ‘that’. Later each student framed a sentence choosing any two of the given sight words. Math Reinforcement of the ‘place value’ and ascending/descending concept was done. Introduction to backward counting from 20 to 0 was done through an online video. Soon after, the students did an activity of counting picture cutouts of marigold flowers .This was followed by writing the same in their process journals. Reinforcement of backward counting was done in the class through number line drawn on the floor and counting chairs activity where students counted the total number of chairs in the class and then removed one chair and count the remaining ones. Formative assessment was done on the various math concepts completed so far. Hindi Students watched an online story “Do Dost” and later were encouraged to share the story in their own words with their peers. The vyanjan “gha” was introduced to the children with the help of video, later students wrote the same in their process journals. Introduction of secondary colors was done with the help of video. Later, children played a game “patang patang kati patang tera kaun sa rang”. Children enjoyed listening to the story “Mala ki chandi ki payal”. Later students illustrated the story according to the sequence. Dance: In the dance class students did the combinations of basic hands and feet positions with different type of music. With their dance routine we are also working on coordination by playing the game “dancing statue’ Art: This week also students continued with the drawing objects using different shapes. They also developed an understanding of the use of outlining art work and outlined the drawn objects with black crayons. ICT: Children explored various educational apps on the iPad. They were encouraged to present their favorite app to their peers. Music
