As we moved into the 2nd week of the ongoing theme, students discussed about known festivals and unknown festivals with the help of the “Twitter Wall” activity done last week. Students also saw a presentation on the upcoming Halloween Festival. Reinforcement of the “op” and “ob” family words was done .The students later wrote the same in their process journals. A story on the festival “Diwali” was narrated to the students and the Alphabet Key chart was updated. A matching activity was done for the reinforcement of the blend “bl”. Moving further with the 2D shapes, students learnt about Oval and Diamond. Students also created rangoli patterns using different shapes. As a part of media literacy students were shown videos on the shapes oval and circle later they had discussion about the difference in the two shapes. This month student’s enthusiastically presented the take and talk in Hindi on the topic “Mera Priya Tyohar” Introduction of the vyangan “Ba” was done, later students wrote the same in their process journals. Students learnt a new song “stuti aradhna”. As a part of the media literacy students saw the story “tale of three fishes”. As a part of early year’s skill building program, students learnt how to transfer beans with the help of chopsticks. In the ICT class students enjoyed creating various illustrations on Diwali in Tux paint on the iPad as well as the laptop. In the Art class students were exposed to the technique of card making using materials like coloured papers, sand, glitters, various cut outs etc. Students also attended an Assembly on the festival Diwali.

Provocation was set up for the new theme “Festivals around the world”. Students explored the festive decorations and artifacts displayed in the classroom. They also talked about different celebrations at their home and illustrated the same. This was later scribed and assembled on a poster to resemble a twitter wall. Students went on to interview and interact with different people in the school and found out different festivals celebrated by them. The information thus collected was collated into known and unknown celebrations. The concept of two dimensional shapes was initiated wherein the students were shown pictures of a chess board, doughnut, bus etc. and were asked questions like what is common between all these pictures, is there any similarity between these? Later an activity of “shape hunt” was done where in students explored the class objects and sorted them according to their respective shapes. Students also learnt about the side and vertex of a shape and later attempted some riddles based on the shapes like, circle, square, triangle and rectangle. As a part of UOI integration students used a tool “Alphabet Key” wherein they sorted and pasted the letters linked with the unit. Reading practice of “en” and “et” family words was done with the help of the LMA box which were later recorded in the process journals. The blend “bl” was also introduced with the help of the LMA box. The vyanjans “ba” and “sa” were introduced to the children, later students wrote the same in their process journals. As a part of Early Years Skill Building Programe students learnt how to cut on curved lines and also how to cut basic shapes like circle, square, rectangle and triangle. In the Art class students joined the dots from 1 to 68 using sketch pens thus created a composition. It was later coloured by them. In the ICT class students enjoyed and had fun playing with educational activities on the Laptop. They can now successfully type their names before attempting a given coloring activity. In the music class students sang the English Classic “Do Re Mi” To improve the musicality students did tapping, clapping, combinations and a dance routine. The ongoing theme “Family” paved the way for lots of rigorous learning and research by the students. With the course of time it reached its conclusive stage wherein the students did the reinforcement also attempted an assessment sheet and illustrated as well as colored learner profile certificates which they wanted to present to their favorite family members. Students attempted a task sheet on sight words. They brainstormed the “og” and “op” family words. They were also given a dictation on the three letter words covered so far. Moving further with the inquiry into currency, students enthusiastically participated in an activity “Shopping Mania” wherein they used token currency to buy a Mac Donald’s meal and do shopping at a grocery. In Hindi, students attempted a summative assessment on the “Swars”. As a part of Early Years Skill building programme students learnt how to transfer water with a dropper and how to make different patterns using inset of design. In the ICT class students explored various phonics apps in iPad in order to reinforce letters and sounds. In the Art class students inquired about complementary colours and created an artwork using them. They also learnt about the importance of outlining an artwork and observed the difference between an art work which has been outlined and one which has not been outlined. Delving deep into the inquiry of the ongoing theme, this week students had an opportunity to meet a guest speaker Ms.Parul Sablok. Ms. Sablok told how a father and a mother play the role of head and heart of the family. And how these roles are complementary to each other. Students also revisited the inquiry board and later illustrated their reflections. What they understood from the unit, which was their favourite strategy in the unit. They also shared which English and Math integrated activities excited them the most. Later students also attempted a summative assessment wherein they illustrated their favourite activities with their parent, grandparents, and siblings. Students were shown a paragraph to introduce the capitalization of the sight word “I” in the beginning and in the middle of the sentence also usage of the period. To work upon their oratory skills “Mystery Bag “activity was done, where in students picked up an object from the classroom and spoke two lines about it. The concept of vowels and consonants was introduced with the help of LMA box. Students also played the game Dumb Charades wherein they picked up a chit of three letter word and later enacted it. Reinforcement of the ongoing concept of Addition was done through a “Story Mat”. Further students also did the “connect four” sheet wherein they added two numbers, and colored them on the number grid. Students also practiced addition sums on the number line and wrote equations on their process journals. Students explored Indian currency, coins and notes. They also brainstormed on the usage of currency in our daily life. An activity to identify and sorting the coins was also done. In Hindi students were introduced to swar “auu” through sand paper letters. Vocabulary of the swar was introduced with the help of a video. As a part of media literacy students watched a video on the story “hawa aur pani”. Reinforcement of the swars done up till now was done through dictation on slates. In order to develop self-help skills in the early year’s students practiced how to use scissors by cutting on a straight and zig zag line. Students also practiced how to tie a shoe lace on the dressing frame. ICT: Students learnt to type their names using text tool in Tuxpaint. It helps them to identify letters on the keyboard. Music-In the music class students were given an opportunity to sing on the microphone. Students also attended a special assembly on “Peace “and forthcoming festivals Dusshera and Moharram. |
