Transdisciplinary theme: Who we are Central Idea: Family relationships contribute to shaping our identity. Lines of Inquiry: • Kinds of families (Form) • Roles within the family (Function) • How families influence who we become (Reflection) Provocation With the beginning of a new Unit under Transdisciplinary theme- “Who we are”, students gave presentations on the illustrations made by them on how they had spent their summer vacations which was followed by discussion on families, family members and relationships. Students were shown videos of the rhymes -“Finger Family”, “I love you, you love me”. Further, they inquired about Nuclear family and Joint family through ORT books and videos and later illustrated their own family members. To assess their prior knowledge of phonic sounds a game “Spin the wheel” was played in the class. This was followed by sand paper letter tracing, writing on slates and also in the notebooks. Students were also shown some pictures and learnt how to thread a story. As a part of numeracy, students played the estimation game in which a jar filled with beads and a bundle of pencils was shown and they were asked to guess the number of beads in the jar. Students also did quantity association through” pocket the sticks and parking lot game”. They used their thinking skills to relate the number with the quantity on flash cards. To understand the progression of the numbers, a very interesting gross motor game was played in the class wherein numbers were written on their hands and they arranged themselves in the correct order from smallest to largest. Students also practiced number formation using sand tray, slates and in the notebooks. Reinforcement of Hindi swars –“a, aa” was done through videos, sand tray, slates and task sheets. Writing on the five line Hindi notebook was also initiated in which the swar “a and aa” were written and the illustrations were drawn. In the Art class, students creatively expressed about the members in their family through stick drawings in their Art Files. Dance Class Students also enjoyed their skating class where they learnt to balance and skate. In the ICT class, students explored some of the applications on the Ipads. Play time
