UOI This week students inquired more about Christmas celebrations.The Placemat strategy was used for prior assessment and later they watch a video on the birth of Jesus for tuning into the inquiry.Students researched about how Christmas is celebrated in different parts of the world. They were shown a power point presentation on Christmas celebrations in Australia. Students also inquired on how Christmas is celebrated in Spain through flashcards. Students reiterated the Joy of Giving. Students were read the letters to the Three Kings (Three wise men), and were asked to decide if the Spanish children who have written the letters deserve to get presents. Using “Walking Debate “strategy, students presented their opinions and developed their communication and critical thinking skills. Students practiced wishing Merry Christmas in different languages. Later students illustrated what they would like for Christmas gifts. As a part of English integration, students were introduced to vocabulary related to important artifacts used during Christmas such as Christmas tree, Santa Claus, Reindeer and Christmas Eve Dinner. English To enhance their listening and speaking skills, students practiced tongue twisters. Students did a group activity in which they were divided into 4 groups. After grouping they were given a sheet to hunt for five words (CVC) and colored the letters red once the words are found. They practiced reading ‘ip’ & ‘ig’ words using flash cards. Later, they illustrated and wrote the same in their process journals. Recapitulation of ‘at’, ‘an’,’en’, ‘et’,’op’,’ot’ words was done through ‘Roll a Rhyme’ game in which students were divided into 4 groups to do the activity of building the rhyming words. Math This week, students were introduced to the concept of subtraction. Students were shown the rhyme ‘5 little Ducks’ on the smart board. They were also shown the minus sign (-) and the teacher discussed its usage in our daily life. Reinforcement of subtraction concept was done through an online video. After that, students used manipulatives to understand subtraction. Students performed a task sheet on subtraction in their process journals. Recapitulation of backward counting from 20-1 was done using manipulatives. Students also played some games like “Who took the cookies from the cookie jar” and “Peg a number” for reinforcement of the concept of subtraction. Hindi The vyanjan “ra” was introduced to the children with the help of a PowerPoint presentation. Also, students were divided into two groups: one group traced the letter on sand and other practiced writing on slates. Later students wrote the same in their process journals. The vyanjan “ka” was introduced to the children and related vocabulary shown through a video. Later students practiced formation of ‘ka’ through tearing, rolling and pasting paper balls on the vyanjan ‘Ka’ flash card. Children enjoyed listening to a story aloud. They then had to predict the likely outcomes or different ending for the same. Circle Time As a part of Early Year’s Skill building programme, students practiced how to wear and zip a jacket. They also practiced how to shell groundnuts. Assembly: Students attended a Sing Along assembly conducted by the music teacher wherein they sang all the carols taught till now. Art: Art class activity was integrated with the current theme on celebration by creating a Christmas tree using techniques like cutting strips of colored paper and sticking, taking impression of caps using poster colors and by coloring paper plates and folding in triangular shape. ICT: Students were introduced to the concept of coding during the Computer Science Education week. They explored coding with "Code a Pillar” app on the iPad and had fun. Dance: In the dance class students did a combination of basic hand and feet position with different types of music with their dance routine. The students also played the “Dancing Statue” Music: Students sang Christmas carols, not only the famous ones like Jingle bells, Rudolf the red nose reindeer, students are also beginning to learn carols in Hindi, and Spanish.
