In continuation with the central idea ‘Family relationships contribute to shaping our identity’, students enhanced their communication skills by discussing how they help their family members at home. Students were shown pictures and videos depicting matriarchal families in India and around the world followed by a discussion. Recapitulation of the vocabulary learnt during the unit was done. Students also learnt a new rhyme ‘Finger family’. As a part of vocabulary enhancement students were introduced to ‘ag’ and ‘ad’ word families. They brainstormed these words, illustrated the learnt vocabulary and practiced writing these words in their process journals. Students were engaged in a bus stop activity for the recapitulation of the word families learnt so far. Reinforcement of sight words I, an, of, the, is was done using the hopscotch game. They were also introduced to a new set of sight words – in, on, to, a, was. Provocation to the concept of Place value was done by showing a few single and double digit numbers and asking the visual difference between them. Students inquired into the concept using Montessori Seguin board. Students were shown a story ‘Magical ropes’ for further understanding of the concept. Students were also assessed on their understanding of even and odd numbers through various activities in the class. In Hindi, students illustrated the vocabulary with the swar ‘oo’ and also practiced writing the swar in their process journals. They were introduced to the swar ‘e’ through a video. They understood the formation through sand tracing and slate writing. As an integration with the unit students were introduced to the names of family members in Hindi and a rhyme ‘Apna ghar’. Reinforcement of the swars learnt so far was also done. Students enjoyed singing ‘Rainbow’ song in their music class. Students practiced dribbling of ball, racing and few exercises in their P.E. class.
