Moving further with the inquiry of the on-going theme, Similarities and differences between the joint family and nuclear family were discussed with the students. Students pasted the pictures of their family members in the double bubble map. To assess their understanding on the first line of inquiry, students were given a cut out of a house and colour coded name tags for each member such as red- mother, yellow- father, brother - green and orange- sister grandparents – purple, helpers-blue, pet- white. They pasted these name tags on the cut out to show the members in their family. As a part of media literacy, students were shown some videos that depicted the roles of different members in a family. As a part of numeracy, the concept of ascending and descending was introduced through manipulatives. This was further reinforced with the help of a game which the students played on the smart board. To understand the student’s clarity of the concepts greater/lesser and ascending/descending a formative assessment was done through spin the wheel game in which students created two digit numbers and wrote the same in the given sheet. Phonic sounds were reinforced with the help of classroom objects. Students were given a choice of picking an object. Later they told its initial and ending sound. Letter formation was practised in the process journals. To enhance the oratory skills of the students “Take and Talk Activity “was conducted, topic of which was” Rio Olympics 2016”. As a part of UOI integration students also practised the phonic sounds of the following terms – paternal, maternal, cousin. nuclear, joint, grandfather, grandmother. Introduction to Hindi swar “ee” was done through videos, slates. Students wrote swar “e” in their process journal and illustrated objects related to it. Assessment on swar “a” and “aa” was also taken. The festival of “Janmashtami” was celebrated with fun and fervour. A special assembly was conducted, students watched an audio visual related to the birth of Lord Krishna, they were shown various artefacts related to the festival; flute, peacock feather, etc. Students also inquired about the musical instrument flute.
