UOI This week the students continued with the research and presentation of the similarities and differences of various festivals of light. The students were divided in groups and they gave a class presentation about the chosen festival of light to their peers. As a part of Math integration, students used the Venn diagram to show similarities and differences in any two festivals of light. Recapitulation of the personal, religious, national and international festivals was done with the help of a short discussion and sorting activity using flash cards Introduction of Continents was done through a continent song. Students were shown pictures of 7 continents and their key characteristics were discussed. English Reinforcement of the structure of the sentence along with appropriate punctuation was done. They watched the story ‘Gus the Duck’ on starfall on the smart board. To enhance their creativity students did an activity, “Weave the story” with the help of stick puppets. Students brainstormed “un” and “ub” family words and later wrote in their process journals. Spillover from previous week, formative assessment was done on punctuation/reading/illustrating. Students also listened to an online story and were then asked to illustrate a snowman and give it a name. Math Reinforcement of numbers from 1 to 20 was done using a Number Puzzle and a number line activity, wherein they had to arrange the numbers on the number line. In sync with the ongoing unit on celebrations students identified the number symbols and counted the corresponding number of diyas. Students also practiced quantity association with a task sheet An assessment sheet was attempted by the students wherein they counted the number of butter cubes and pasted on a matki. Hindi Introduction of two letter words with all the vyanjans done so far: ‘ba’, ‘sa’, ‘na’, ‘la’ was done with the help of the sand paper letters. Students joined the vyanjans and read the two letter words aloud. Later, students practiced writing the words in their process journals. Students learnt a new hindi rhyme ‘Lala ji ne’. Reinforcement of the vyanjans done so far “ba”,”sa”,”na”,”la” was done through the game musical chairs. Later they were given dictation on the slates. Assessment of Hindi vyanjans done so far was also done. ICT: Students were introduced to Smiley\Emoticons\Emoji on the iPad using touch keyboard. They had fun exploring various emoji. They also carried out tracing activities on the iPad. Art: Students drew objects using different shapes and later colored them.They also developed an understanding of the use of outlining art work and outlined the drawn objects with black crayons. Music: In the music class students played the basic beats on the congo and learnt some Christmas carols. PE: In the PE class students learnt the athletic skills like stance of the running.

UOI This week also, the students continued with their research on the different festivals of light celebrated across the globe. The students were divided in groups and they gave a class presentation about the chosen festival of light in front of their peers. English Students played musical chairs and read the sight words. Sentence formation was done using sight words and cvc words while playing the Word Ladder game and later they wrote them in their process journals. They brainstormed “ut” and “ug” words. Math Students were shown different types of clocks (sundial, analogue, and digital) on the smart board. They also learnt how to read O’clock time on analogue clock and digital clock where they picked up chits and read time written on it. Students played the Time puzzle hunt game in which they had to hunt for puzzle pieces on which analogue and digital time was shown. Later they had to match and make pairs by joining the puzzle. As a part of ICT integration, students explored an application on “time telling” in I-pads. Formative assessment was done where in children had to draw time given to them on the clocks pasted. Recapitulation of addition was done where students were given addition sums in their process journals and they had to solve them using any strategy (number line, manipulatives or drawing lines). Hindi Reinforcement of swars “e”, “ee”, “o”, “oo” was done through Hopscotch. Formative assessment on “Hindi ki Ginti 1 to 10” (was done through “Simon Says” game) and “Rangon ke naam” was done with a game on primary colors where students were shown a colour, and they drew an object from nature in their process journals. The vyanjan “pa” was introduced to the children, later students wrote the same in their process journals. The children also enjoyed listening to story book “Pranav ki Tasveer”. Circle Time As a part of Early Years Skill Building Program, students learnt how to tie bows. They also learnt how to make a house using the technique of paper folding-Origami. Music: The students practiced to play the 2/4 and 2/6 beat on the congo. They played and presented the same individually. They revised the scales on the xylophone and started learning the Christmas carols. Art Students inquired into the technique of clay modelling and used this medium to create figures of their family members. UOI Moving further with the inquiry on the current theme “Celebrations” students this week inquired about the different “festivals of light” celebrated across the world like Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Loy Krathong. The students researched about these festivals using the tools like books/ppt/internet and later illustrated and presented their findings. Students also did an activity based on the concept of personal, religious and social celebrations wherein they were given pictures in a mixed pool and had to sort them on the basis of above mentioned categories. English Reinforcement of three letter words was done by playing Bingo. They also attempted a dictation on ‘et’, ‘eg’, ‘en’ and ‘ed’ family words covered so far in their process journals. Reinforcement of blend ‘bl’ was done by writing related words in their process journals. As a part of UOI integration, students went on a field trip to Gurudwara Sahib and later reflected on the same. Maths Recapitulation of 2D shapes was done using ‘The Shape game’. The students also attempted a Formative Assessment on shapes. The concept of “Time” was initiated this week. Students inquired about the need of having a clock in our day to day life. Students did a jigsaw puzzle of a clock. Later they did an activity “Making my own clock” Hindi The vyanjan “na” was introduced to the children with the help of video, later students wrote the same in their process journals. Recapitulation of vyanjans done so far “ba’, “sa’, and “na’ was also done through the bingo game. As a part of UOI integration students listened to the story “Ismat ki Id”. Circle Time: As a part of Early Years Skill Building Programme, students learnt how to roll and unroll a cloth mat. They also learnt how to use paper clips. ICT: The students carried out educational activities on the Laptop as well as on the iPad. Art Students inquired into the technique of clay modelling and used this medium to create figures of their family members. Music The students were given an opportunity to play the musical instrument Congo. PE: In the PE class students did lot of exercises and understood how they are important to keep us fit. They also learnt how to dab a basketball. As we moved into the 2nd week of the ongoing theme, students discussed about known festivals and unknown festivals with the help of the “Twitter Wall” activity done last week. Students also saw a presentation on the upcoming Halloween Festival. Reinforcement of the “op” and “ob” family words was done .The students later wrote the same in their process journals. A story on the festival “Diwali” was narrated to the students and the Alphabet Key chart was updated. A matching activity was done for the reinforcement of the blend “bl”. Moving further with the 2D shapes, students learnt about Oval and Diamond. Students also created rangoli patterns using different shapes. As a part of media literacy students were shown videos on the shapes oval and circle later they had discussion about the difference in the two shapes. This month student’s enthusiastically presented the take and talk in Hindi on the topic “Mera Priya Tyohar” Introduction of the vyangan “Ba” was done, later students wrote the same in their process journals. Students learnt a new song “stuti aradhna”. As a part of the media literacy students saw the story “tale of three fishes”. As a part of early year’s skill building program, students learnt how to transfer beans with the help of chopsticks. In the ICT class students enjoyed creating various illustrations on Diwali in Tux paint on the iPad as well as the laptop. In the Art class students were exposed to the technique of card making using materials like coloured papers, sand, glitters, various cut outs etc. Students also attended an Assembly on the festival Diwali. Provocation was set up for the new theme “Festivals around the world”. Students explored the festive decorations and artifacts displayed in the classroom. They also talked about different celebrations at their home and illustrated the same. This was later scribed and assembled on a poster to resemble a twitter wall. Students went on to interview and interact with different people in the school and found out different festivals celebrated by them. The information thus collected was collated into known and unknown celebrations. The concept of two dimensional shapes was initiated wherein the students were shown pictures of a chess board, doughnut, bus etc. and were asked questions like what is common between all these pictures, is there any similarity between these? Later an activity of “shape hunt” was done where in students explored the class objects and sorted them according to their respective shapes. Students also learnt about the side and vertex of a shape and later attempted some riddles based on the shapes like, circle, square, triangle and rectangle. As a part of UOI integration students used a tool “Alphabet Key” wherein they sorted and pasted the letters linked with the unit. Reading practice of “en” and “et” family words was done with the help of the LMA box which were later recorded in the process journals. The blend “bl” was also introduced with the help of the LMA box. The vyanjans “ba” and “sa” were introduced to the children, later students wrote the same in their process journals. As a part of Early Years Skill Building Programe students learnt how to cut on curved lines and also how to cut basic shapes like circle, square, rectangle and triangle. In the Art class students joined the dots from 1 to 68 using sketch pens thus created a composition. It was later coloured by them. In the ICT class students enjoyed and had fun playing with educational activities on the Laptop. They can now successfully type their names before attempting a given coloring activity. In the music class students sang the English Classic “Do Re Mi” To improve the musicality students did tapping, clapping, combinations and a dance routine. The ongoing theme “Family” paved the way for lots of rigorous learning and research by the students. With the course of time it reached its conclusive stage wherein the students did the reinforcement also attempted an assessment sheet and illustrated as well as colored learner profile certificates which they wanted to present to their favorite family members. Students attempted a task sheet on sight words. They brainstormed the “og” and “op” family words. They were also given a dictation on the three letter words covered so far. Moving further with the inquiry into currency, students enthusiastically participated in an activity “Shopping Mania” wherein they used token currency to buy a Mac Donald’s meal and do shopping at a grocery. In Hindi, students attempted a summative assessment on the “Swars”. As a part of Early Years Skill building programme students learnt how to transfer water with a dropper and how to make different patterns using inset of design. In the ICT class students explored various phonics apps in iPad in order to reinforce letters and sounds. In the Art class students inquired about complementary colours and created an artwork using them. They also learnt about the importance of outlining an artwork and observed the difference between an art work which has been outlined and one which has not been outlined. Delving deep into the inquiry of the ongoing theme, this week students had an opportunity to meet a guest speaker Ms.Parul Sablok. Ms. Sablok told how a father and a mother play the role of head and heart of the family. And how these roles are complementary to each other. Students also revisited the inquiry board and later illustrated their reflections. What they understood from the unit, which was their favourite strategy in the unit. They also shared which English and Math integrated activities excited them the most. Later students also attempted a summative assessment wherein they illustrated their favourite activities with their parent, grandparents, and siblings. Students were shown a paragraph to introduce the capitalization of the sight word “I” in the beginning and in the middle of the sentence also usage of the period. To work upon their oratory skills “Mystery Bag “activity was done, where in students picked up an object from the classroom and spoke two lines about it. The concept of vowels and consonants was introduced with the help of LMA box. Students also played the game Dumb Charades wherein they picked up a chit of three letter word and later enacted it. Reinforcement of the ongoing concept of Addition was done through a “Story Mat”. Further students also did the “connect four” sheet wherein they added two numbers, and colored them on the number grid. Students also practiced addition sums on the number line and wrote equations on their process journals. Students explored Indian currency, coins and notes. They also brainstormed on the usage of currency in our daily life. An activity to identify and sorting the coins was also done. In Hindi students were introduced to swar “auu” through sand paper letters. Vocabulary of the swar was introduced with the help of a video. As a part of media literacy students watched a video on the story “hawa aur pani”. Reinforcement of the swars done up till now was done through dictation on slates. In order to develop self-help skills in the early year’s students practiced how to use scissors by cutting on a straight and zig zag line. Students also practiced how to tie a shoe lace on the dressing frame. ICT: Students learnt to type their names using text tool in Tuxpaint. It helps them to identify letters on the keyboard. Music-In the music class students were given an opportunity to sing on the microphone. Students also attended a special assembly on “Peace “and forthcoming festivals Dusshera and Moharram. In continuation to the unit ‘Families’ students were shown some videos depicting how families influence who we become followed by a quiz. As a part of vocabulary enhancement, students were introduced to ‘og’ and ‘ot’ word families. They brainstormed these words and created them using LMA. Later they practiced writing them in their journals. Students actively presented ‘Take & Talk’ on ‘My favorite family member’. They were introduced to a new set of sight words ‘all, his, her, and, for’ through a sand game. Students were also read a story ‘My family’ and were introduced to vocabulary such as author, illustrator, cover page, back page. In Math, students recapitulated the concepts: Number recognition, quantity association, tens and ones, ascending/descending and even odd through various games and activities. Students practiced addition using counting on technique. Students worked in pairs to solve addition problems using appropriate strategy. They were introduced to position words through a presentation and were familiarized with the related vocabulary. Later they played a coloring game based on positions. In Hindi, Students attempted a formative assessment on the swars ‘o’, ‘oo’, ‘aiy’, ‘ai’. Students were introduced to the swar ‘oa’ through a video. They understood the formation through sand tracing and slate writing. They illustrated the vocabulary with the swar ‘oa’ and also practiced writing the swar in their process journals. Students were also introduced to ‘Phalon aur sabziyon ke naam’ in Hindi. PE: Student’s practiced walking on a straight line for coordination between leg and hand moment. They also had a relay race using ball. ICT: Students learnt to work how to use external mouse of a laptop. They also worked on different educational apps on Ipads. Music: The students learnt to play “do re mi…” on the keyboard. Songs done previously were reinforced. Students also played and explored various percussion instruments. With reference to the central idea ‘Family relationships contribute to shaping our identity’ students were shown a presentation on people displaying values. As a part of media literacy they were shown some advertisements based on family values followed by a discussion about the values they display at home. Students were narrated a story ‘Caribbean family history’ and discussed values imbibed by a family. Students were also shown a story related to the family history of Abraham Lincoln. They also attempted a formative assessment on the second line of inquiry. Students recapitulated the sight words done so far through LMA and ‘In a minute’ game. They practiced reading ‘ed’ and ‘eg’ words through an online story. Later they practiced writing these words in their journals. Students attempted an assessment on sight words through ‘Musical chairs’ game. They were also read a story ‘Families are different’ followed by a discussion. Students practiced reading and writing simple sentences using the sight words and the three letter words learnt so far. Tuning in to the concept of addition students were narrated a story showcasing addition. Students used manipulatives to solve various addition problems. Students also practically experienced by roleplaying different addition related problem solving situations. Later students made their own addition sums in their journals. Students were introduced to a number line and how to use it solve in addition problems. iIn Hindi, students were introduced to the swar ‘aiy’ through a video. They understood the formation through sand tracing and slate writing. They illustrated the vocabulary with the swar ‘aiy’ and also practiced writing the swar in their process journals. Students revised primary colors through a game. They also learnt a new rhyme ‘Chunnu Munnu’. In ICT, students revised phonics through playing educational games on Ipads. Deepening the understanding of the central idea ‘Family relationships contribute to shaping our identity’ students were shown pictures of Nehru Gandhi Family and were asked questions related to them. They were also shown a story related to the life of Jawahar Lal Nehru followed by a discussion. Students also went for a field trip to the ‘Teen Murti Bhavan’. Students enthusiastically made coupon cards for their grandparents for the grandparents’ day. Students recapitulated the ‘at’, ‘an’, ‘ag’ and ‘ad’ family words through a treasure hunt game. They attempted a formative assessment on these words through various activities in the classroom. They were introduced to ‘ed’ and ‘eg’ word families through a presentation. Provocation to the concept of addition was done by showing them a Plus sign and asking questions like which sign is this? Where have you seen this? How it is used? Students were assessed on their understanding of the concept of Place value using various manipulatives. Students practiced writing ‘ai’ in their process journals and illustrated the vocabulary related to it. As a part of ‘Hindi Saptah’ students played a Bingo game on fruits and vegetables. They also enjoyed tongue twisters in Hindi. Students had fun learning a new rhyme ‘Hilmil kar rehna’. As a part of early year skill building activity students worked with a blunt needle and thread.
