UOI: In a ‘Think Puzzle Explore strategy’, students were given cut out of a picture on water pollution which they had to rearrange logically and present their understanding to their class. They also did an experiment on water pollution where they tried to segregate mixed household trash, vegetable oil, tongs etc. from a bucket of water. Their facilitator explained to them that it was an impossible task to achieve. English Integration: students where shown a video on “Oil Spill” and in Hindi, they watched the story "PradooshanMaan' followed by a discussion. They were introduced to vocabulary words like paani, hawa, dharti, shor, dhuaan, gandagi and dushit. Art Integration: The students were shown a video through which they learnt about waste being reused to make beautiful artworks. English: Introduction of ‘ee’ words were done through a Power Point presentation. Later students wrote/illustrated their understanding of the same in their process journals. Students indulged in a ‘Take and Talk’ on “Recycle” with handmade items which they made from the recycled things. Formative assessment on rhyming words was taken where a dice with pictures were rolled and rhyming words for the same were written in the process journals. They also illustrated the sentences given to them on a sheet of paper. Some students also challenged themselves by picking up a word from the mixed pool and framed sentences using rhyming words. Math: Students continued learning about 2D and 3D shapes. They attempted a Formative Assessment on the 3D shapes they have learnt. Hindi: Students practised writing two letter words in their process journals. Formative assessment on two letter words was done through bingo and it was met with a lot of enthusiasm. Music: The students have begun learning and singing the green grass song. A group activity of creating patterns through claps for songs they heard in the class seemed interesting. They practiced the solfeges along with hand actions. A class activity with students where they had to identify the name of instruments by just hearing music pieces played on them on the laptop was a great auditory exercise. PE:

UOI: Students discussed the task given to them over the weekend pertaining to Land Pollution. They discussed what they saw when they went out with their parents. Some of them shared the pictures of the polluted site. Students were shown a visual presentation on land pollution which was followed by a discussion. Later they reflected and illustrated their understanding on a given sheet. Students were introduced to a rhyme - ‘The Planting Song’ which they enjoyed reciting. English: Students were introduced to punctuation ‘Question Mark’ through a Power Point presentation. Later they discussed its usage in day-to-day life. Students formulated questions using the 5 W’s (who, what, when, where, why) and ‘how’ – using a geometric cube and wrote them in their process journals. Recapitulation of rhyming words was done through group activities. Students were given floor games for reinforcing rhyming words. They moved from one end of the room to the other by jumping on the rhyming word cut-outs. Math: Students were introduced to 3D shapes – cube, cuboid, and cone along with their properties. They looked around the classroom to find similar shapes and illustrated the same in their process journals. In a sorting activity, they were given 3D shapes in a mixed pool and were asked to sort them according to their properties. Hindi: Students practised writing two letter words (dva, hva, hra, dal, chaar) in their process journals. Introduction of vyanjan ‘kha’ was done through a ‘dumb charade’ game. Later, they practised its formation through sand tracing and slate writing. Students recapitulated two letter & ‘aa’ matra words done so far, through a game of options. They picked up a card with a word written on it, read and explained its meaning to their peers. To enhance their vocabulary, students were narrated a story ‘Char dost’ which they thoroughly enjoyed and asked many questions related to it. Circle Time: As a part of Early Year’s Skill building program, students practiced how to pick up a chair. Music: Students learnt a song on Holi – ‘Holi aayi Holi re’. They practiced singing the chromatic scale in ascending and descending order. They also presented the ‘Earth Song’ in a group. PE: Students practiced how to hold a racquet with correct body posture. They also practiced balancing the lawn tennis ball on the racquet, while standing in a stationary position or while moving forward with long strides. They also enjoyed playing a game of football. And some more... UOI: Students were shown a visual presentation on the ten most polluted cities in India. After a discussion with the facilitator, they embarked on a group activity in which they arranged the data as bar graph in descending order of pollution levels. They used their thinking skills in another activity where they saw a visual presentation on the cause- effect relationship of air pollution and suggested measures to control it. Students attempted a Formative Assessment on the first line of inquiry where they sorted the pictures of types of pollution and pasted it in their process journals. English: Students were engaged in a group activity to enhance their creativity and thinking skills by weaving a story. One group chose a theme and conceptualized a story around it. Another group found words written on paper in a sensory bag filled with sand and engaged in weaving a story using these words. A third group was given paper puppets to present a story to the class. Students were introduced to few more sight words like ‘more’, ‘look’, ‘here’, ‘with’ and ‘like’ using simple sentences, with a powerpoint presentation. Later they wrote the same in their process journals. A dictation was undertaken to enhance their vocabulary and spelling formations. In a listening activity, students heard an audio clip for few seconds and were given a comprehension sheet to work out. Math: Students reinforced numbers up to 30 with enjoyable riddles.They were introduced to ordinal numbers through a visual presentation. They played a game in groups, in which they picked up a number card and arranged themselves according to an ordinal number, calling out the numbers as ‘first’, ‘second’, ‘third’ and so on. They also played an online game on ordinal numbers along with their facilitator. Another game involved a car racing track setup in class in which students raced their cars and later arranged themselves according to their ranks. They also attempted a task sheet on ordinal numbers. Hindi: Students were introduced to vyanjan ‘va’ through a visual presentation. They practiced the formations through sand tracing and slate writing. They also practiced writing and illustrating vyanjans ‘va’ and ‘da’ in their process journals. To enhance their vocabulary and spelling formations, students were introduced to more two letter words. They were introduced to a rhyme - ‘Udi Patang’ which they enjoyed reciting. Circle Time: As a part of Early Year’s Skill building program, students practiced how to open and close buttons on a shirt. They also practiced transferring water from one bowl to another using a dropper. Art: Students continued last week’s activity of colouring Doodle Art using complementary colours. Medium of Art used - oil pastels and wax crayons. Dance: Students danced using a combination of steps, in groups of four. They also practiced a routine for the UOI presentation. Music: The students practiced playing scales of ‘Twinkle-Twinkle’ on the xylophone. They also tried singing the ‘Earth Song’ by Michael Jackson. Students also inquired about the famous music maestro, Mozart and engaged in auditory appreciation of a few of his compositions. PE: Students learnt how to grip a racquet properly using points/spots on the palm that are considered important for certain grip levels. They practiced correct body postures and the swinging movement while holding a racquet. Fun time! UOI: Students were shown a visual presentation on the cause and effect of air pollution. The facilitator explained all the possible reasons for air pollution and what could be done to control it. The students thereafter inquired by asking questions related to air pollution. Later, they reflected on the presentation and illustrated the same. In a practical demonstration, an experiment on air pollution was shown to the students. A candle was lit and then covered with a Pyrex cover, demonstrating how smoke around us can make things dirty. Students understood that the soot from the burning candle was responsible for pollution. As a part of print media literacy students watched an online presentation to understand the meaning of ‘smog’. Reference was made to the conditions around Delhi & NCR around Diwali time. English: Students were involved in recapitulation of sight words which was done in groups. They were engaged in a ‘Roll and Write’ activity where they rolled the dice and practised writing the sight words accordingly. They also played games like ‘Tic-Tac-Toe’ and ‘Snakes and Ladder’ using sight words. Students gave a ‘Take and Talk’ presentation on their ‘Favourite destination’ they travelled to in the recent times. They presented it with beautiful props, cards and charts. Introduction of blend ‘cr’ was done with a ‘word hunt’ game. Students were given the cut-outs of the pictures & letters which they had to group together and form a meaningful word. Math: Students were involved in reinforcement of place value which was undertaken with bead material. Later they attempted a task sheet on it. Students also attempted a task-sheet on addition. Provocation: Provocation and prior knowledge assessment on Pollution was conducted on the students through “I See-I Think-I Feel” activity. Students were taken to a station where they were shown few pictures portraying effects of pollution. Later anecdotal records were made about observations made by each student. Students continued to pursue their first line of inquiry – ‘Types of Pollution’. They watched a video on pollution which was followed by a brainstorming discussion in class with questions like ‘How does Mother Earth look like in the first part and the second part of the video’? and ‘Are we responsible for it’? Students enjoyed doing a sorting activity in which they sorted flash cards and categorized them under Land, Air, Water and Noise pollution. English: Students were introduced to fixed phonogram ‘wh’, through a wheel in which they had to try and read words from the ‘wh’ word wheel and identify pictures related to it. Later students practiced writing ‘wh’ related words in their process journals. They also learnt the phonogram 'sh' with the help of LMA. Math: Recapitulation of ‘ascending’ and ‘descending’ order of numbers was done through a ‘Number train’ game. Numbers were written on the hands of students and they were asked to arrange themselves according to ascending and descending order. Group 1 matched the number of ice cream sticks with the given number and Group 2 was given number slips and they drew the quantity associated with it. Revision of ‘ascending’ and ‘descending’ order of numbers was done through an online game. They also attempted a looping back worksheet. Students were introduced to numbers beyond 30 till 50 by playing a floor game. Students were also shown a video on numbers 1 to 50. Later they wrote the same in their process journals. Students also attempted a sheet of quantity association in their process journals. Hindi: Students recapped vyanjan and matra done previously through a popcorn activity. They were introduced to ‘Aa’ Maatra words using flash cards. Later they practiced writing few words in their process journals along with illustrations. This should come as a part of trans-disciplinary learning in the beginning itself visual story on Lohri in Hindi and were familiarized with Hindi vocabulary related to the festival (gur, moongphali, lok nratya). They also made illustrations of objects related to the vyanjan. Students were introduced to Hindi sight words ‘yeh’ and ‘hai’ through flash cards. They later practiced writing two sentences using these sight words. This week, students were also introduced to new two letter words: ‘ghar’, ‘oon’, ‘ras’, and ‘ek’. Art: Students inquired about ‘doodling’ and doodled on a given sheet using black sketch pens. ICT: Students explored Uppercase and Lowercase Letter Matching activity on http://www.abcya.com/ and had fun. It helped them to reinforce the concept learnt in the classroom and they were also excited to explore how to navigate on a website. Dance: Students tried combination of basic hands and feet positions with different type of music. Techniques of Dancing Statues helped them to work on their coordination. Music: The students practiced various techniques of vocal warm-ups in western music. They learnt the ‘Kookaburra song’ and a motivational song – ‘Umeedon Wali Dhoop’. The students practiced playing the sargam on teh keyboard. PE: Students learned motor skill building activities like jumping, single leg-hopping and double leg-hopping. The students had a great time sharing the props and stories they had prepared as part of their winter holiday homework. UOI: Students had a skype session with an International school to inquire into few unknown celebrations and showcase their understanding of Diwali celebrations. Being the Christmas week, students enjoyed making Christmas crafts like stockings, wreath bells, sugar stick etc. To inquire more on Christmas, students went on a field trip to the Church to observe the decorations and artifacts. This was followed by a reflection of the field trip. Students relished making and eating Oreo cookies with icing and decorating it with sprinkles. English: Recapitulation of rhyming words was done through a game ‘Roll a Rhyme’ played in pairs. Students did a ‘Take and Talk’ presentation “My Favorite Christmas Carol". Formative assessment was done through a story on sequencing of the ‘The little Red Hen’. Students were shown the story and later given flash cards to arrange them in a sequence as well express it using appropriate vocabulary. Students wrote rhyming words of “ig” and “ip” families in their process journals. They were also introduced to pl blend. Math: This week, students were introduced to the concept of ‘skip counting’. They participated in an activity where students were shown a chart with a pair of elf shoes on it and they had to count and speak the numbers till 20. After a discussion with the teacher, they watched a video on skip counting. Students also practiced skip counting by 2’s by circling the numbers in 2’s on a number line pasted in their process journals. Hindi: Students practiced writing the vyanjan “ma” in their process journals. They also made illustrations of objects related to the vyanjan. Introduction of ‘Aa ki matra’ was also done. Later students practiced writing “Aa ki matra” in their process journals. Recapitulation of swars and vyanjans done so far through a mixed pool activity. Students picked up a flash card, identified the swar/vyanjan and named an object with it. Music: Students sang carols in English, Hindi, and Spanish. UOI: This week, also we inquired more about Christmas celebrations. Recapitulation of Christmas celebrations in Spain and Australia was done and later students shared their understanding through a T-chart. Students attempted a comprehension sheet based on Christmas. They also updated the vocabulary wall and Celebration calendar. English: This week, students were introduced to rhyming words through an activity where each student was given a piece of paper with a cvc word written on it, they read the word and matched its rhyming word amongst their peers. Students also wrote the rhyming words of ‘at’, ‘ug’‘in’, ‘it’, “en” and “og” families in their process journals. Formative assessment on sentence formation and punctuation was done. Students were shown a picture of a dog, sun, hen and bat and were asked to frame a sentence and write it with proper punctuation in their process journals. Math: This week, students were introduced to the concept of ‘patterns’. They participated in an activity where students had to close their eyes while the teacher played beats in a pattern. The students then had to repeat the same pattern, after opening their eyes. After a discussion with the teacher, they watched a video on patterns for further understanding on the subject. As a part of UOI integration, students created a decorative mat called mkeka (which is a Kwanzaa festival decorative mat) with the help of pre-cut shapes. Children were given shapes to create a pattern which they pasted on a sheet of paper to make a mat. Hindi: Students practiced writing the vyanjan “ka” in their process journals. They also made illustrations of objects related to the vyanjan. Recapitulation of two letter words ‘nal’, ‘bal’, ‘bus’, ‘sab’ was done. Formative assessment of two letter words was done. Students were introduced to unit related vocabulary in Hindi – ‘uphaar’, ‘utsav’, ‘tyohaar’, ‘sajawat’, ‘mithai’, ‘janamdin’ through an online Christmas story. The vyanjan “ma” was introduced to the children and related vocabulary shown through a video. Students also practiced formation of vyanjan ‘ma’ through sand tracing and slate writing. PE: Student learned various movement of the body like warming up and cooling down exercises. Music: The students were given an opportunity to sing Christmas carols in Hindi, English, Spanish, and French. UOI This week students inquired more about Christmas celebrations.The Placemat strategy was used for prior assessment and later they watch a video on the birth of Jesus for tuning into the inquiry.Students researched about how Christmas is celebrated in different parts of the world. They were shown a power point presentation on Christmas celebrations in Australia. Students also inquired on how Christmas is celebrated in Spain through flashcards. Students reiterated the Joy of Giving. Students were read the letters to the Three Kings (Three wise men), and were asked to decide if the Spanish children who have written the letters deserve to get presents. Using “Walking Debate “strategy, students presented their opinions and developed their communication and critical thinking skills. Students practiced wishing Merry Christmas in different languages. Later students illustrated what they would like for Christmas gifts. As a part of English integration, students were introduced to vocabulary related to important artifacts used during Christmas such as Christmas tree, Santa Claus, Reindeer and Christmas Eve Dinner. English To enhance their listening and speaking skills, students practiced tongue twisters. Students did a group activity in which they were divided into 4 groups. After grouping they were given a sheet to hunt for five words (CVC) and colored the letters red once the words are found. They practiced reading ‘ip’ & ‘ig’ words using flash cards. Later, they illustrated and wrote the same in their process journals. Recapitulation of ‘at’, ‘an’,’en’, ‘et’,’op’,’ot’ words was done through ‘Roll a Rhyme’ game in which students were divided into 4 groups to do the activity of building the rhyming words. Math This week, students were introduced to the concept of subtraction. Students were shown the rhyme ‘5 little Ducks’ on the smart board. They were also shown the minus sign (-) and the teacher discussed its usage in our daily life. Reinforcement of subtraction concept was done through an online video. After that, students used manipulatives to understand subtraction. Students performed a task sheet on subtraction in their process journals. Recapitulation of backward counting from 20-1 was done using manipulatives. Students also played some games like “Who took the cookies from the cookie jar” and “Peg a number” for reinforcement of the concept of subtraction. Hindi The vyanjan “ra” was introduced to the children with the help of a PowerPoint presentation. Also, students were divided into two groups: one group traced the letter on sand and other practiced writing on slates. Later students wrote the same in their process journals. The vyanjan “ka” was introduced to the children and related vocabulary shown through a video. Later students practiced formation of ‘ka’ through tearing, rolling and pasting paper balls on the vyanjan ‘Ka’ flash card. Children enjoyed listening to a story aloud. They then had to predict the likely outcomes or different ending for the same. Circle Time As a part of Early Year’s Skill building programme, students practiced how to wear and zip a jacket. They also practiced how to shell groundnuts. Assembly: Students attended a Sing Along assembly conducted by the music teacher wherein they sang all the carols taught till now. Art: Art class activity was integrated with the current theme on celebration by creating a Christmas tree using techniques like cutting strips of colored paper and sticking, taking impression of caps using poster colors and by coloring paper plates and folding in triangular shape. ICT: Students were introduced to the concept of coding during the Computer Science Education week. They explored coding with "Code a Pillar” app on the iPad and had fun. Dance: In the dance class students did a combination of basic hand and feet position with different types of music with their dance routine. The students also played the “Dancing Statue” Music: Students sang Christmas carols, not only the famous ones like Jingle bells, Rudolf the red nose reindeer, students are also beginning to learn carols in Hindi, and Spanish. UOI Moving further with the understanding on the continents this week students attempted a worksheet on continents wherein they colored the continents. Students inquired about the significance of the Christmas carols. Students listened to popular carols which they learnt and practiced every day. Students brainstormed about the forthcoming festival Christmas. After having a class discussion on how, where and by whom it is celebrated students illustrated their responses on a placement template. Students had an opportunity to attend a guest speaker session by Ms. Rafia Asif and shared about the festival celebrated by the muslims. Students also updated the celebration calendar, resource tally chart and the mapping of celebrations on World map. They were shown maps of the countries which they mapped on the world map and explained their features. English Reinforcement of the structure of the sentence along with appropriate punctuation was done through a game called ‘Let’s make a sentence’. This week students gave a presentation “Take and Talk” on the art of paper folding –Origami. Students played a bingo game on the three letter words with “u” as the medial sound. As a part of the media literacy students listened to an online story. To enhance their vocabulary skills, students were introduced to a new set of sight words: ‘have’, ‘had’, ‘he’, ‘she’, ‘they’, ‘we’, ‘see’ and ‘that’. Later each student framed a sentence choosing any two of the given sight words. Math Reinforcement of the ‘place value’ and ascending/descending concept was done. Introduction to backward counting from 20 to 0 was done through an online video. Soon after, the students did an activity of counting picture cutouts of marigold flowers .This was followed by writing the same in their process journals. Reinforcement of backward counting was done in the class through number line drawn on the floor and counting chairs activity where students counted the total number of chairs in the class and then removed one chair and count the remaining ones. Formative assessment was done on the various math concepts completed so far. Hindi Students watched an online story “Do Dost” and later were encouraged to share the story in their own words with their peers. The vyanjan “gha” was introduced to the children with the help of video, later students wrote the same in their process journals. Introduction of secondary colors was done with the help of video. Later, children played a game “patang patang kati patang tera kaun sa rang”. Children enjoyed listening to the story “Mala ki chandi ki payal”. Later students illustrated the story according to the sequence. Dance: In the dance class students did the combinations of basic hands and feet positions with different type of music. With their dance routine we are also working on coordination by playing the game “dancing statue’ Art: This week also students continued with the drawing objects using different shapes. They also developed an understanding of the use of outlining art work and outlined the drawn objects with black crayons. ICT: Children explored various educational apps on the iPad.
